When I first started working in the wedding industry over 12 years ago up at Cypress Grove, I discovered a whole new world. At that point, I was working as a coordinator for Crownline Weddings, meeting a ton of UK couples who made Central Florida their place for a destination wedding. I would walk them through the planning process, making sure everything was just what they wanted. During our busier months, I was coordinating up to five weddings a day! It was fast-paced, but I loved it. Most couples would even invite me to the reception for cake and champagne, but I learned very quickly that with five weddings, there’s definitely a limit to the amount of cake and champagne offers you can accept! But, really, that was a small price to pay for a job where you can chat to people about your home country, nibble on wedding cake, drink the occasional glass of champagne, and get paid for it.
Today, I own my own wedding coordination business, the Winter Park Wedding Company, and things are a bit more involved. Sweeping floors, planting flowers, cleaning bathrooms, updating social media – these are just some of what I feel like are a million things I have to think about on a daily basis. But you know what? It’s still the best job in the world and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I get to meet amazing people from all over the world, help them plan for one of the happiest days of their lives, hear stories about how they met, see them in their beautiful dresses and smart suits, and send them off into the world married. I have so many stories! (both humorous and lovely) Maybe one day I’ll write a book…
After all is said and done, it is still rewarding every time a couple comes back to visit the Winter Park Wedding Chapel for their anniversary or writes a thank you note about how beautiful their special day was. It’s such a wonderful feeling to know that down the line, after the honeymoon when couples settle into their new lives together, that the Winter Park Wedding Chapel and the city of Winter Park holds a special place in their hearts forever. It’s moments like those that I know I’ve done it right.
